Mogadishu, July 12, 2026 – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdifatah Qasim Mahmoud, today held a meeting with the Chairperson of the National Independent Electoral Commission, H.E. Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, to discuss the ongoing one-person, one-vote electoral process, with particular emphasis on the coverage of the upcoming elections in Galmudug.
The Minister and the Chairperson focused their discussions on the role of the National Media in covering the Galmudug elections, which will take place across 11 districts. The Ministry of Information will deploy journalists from the National Media to report on the electoral process.
Minister Abdifatah Qasim commended the National Independent Electoral Commission for the progress being made in implementing the one-person, one-vote electoral process across the country. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Information's commitment to fulfilling its responsibility in providing comprehensive election coverage and raising public awareness, with the aim of educating citizens about the direct electoral process and ensuring that political power is returned to the people through democratic elections.
